Merge tag 'perf-core-for-mingo-5.0-
20190121' of git://git./linux/kernel/git/acme/linux into perf/core
Pull perf/core improvements and fixes from Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo:
BPF:
Song Liu:
- Introduce PERF_RECORD_KSYMBOL to allow tooling to notice the addition
of new kernel symbols and be able to resolve samples in such symbols.
- Introduce PERF_RECORD_BPF_EVENT to notify tooling about the loading
and unloading of BPF programs, making them visible and allowing for
the request of further information to allow for things like annotation.
- Change the userspace perf tools to handle those new events and to
synthesize them for pre-existing loaded BPF programs.
Kernel:
Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo:
- Make perf_event_output() propagate the output() return, allowing
users to check for -ENOSPC in the ring buffer.
perf report:
Thomas Richter:
- Display arch specific diagnostic counter sets, starting with s390
diagnostic counter sets.
perf session:
Jiri Olsa:
- Introduce a reader object to prep for multithreaded processing
of recorded events.
Misc:
Rasmus Villemoes:
- Replace automatic const char[] variables by statics, to avoid
initializing them at runtime, instead having them in .rodata,
reducing code size.
YueHaibing:
- Remove duplicated workqueue.h include from perf_event.h
Brajeswar Ghosh:
- Remove some more duplicated headers.

perf tools: Synthesize PERF_RECORD_* for loaded BPF programs
This patch synthesize PERF_RECORD_KSYMBOL and PERF_RECORD_BPF_EVENT for
BPF programs loaded before perf-record. This is achieved by gathering
information about all BPF programs via sys_bpf.
Committer notes:
Fix the build on some older systems such as amazonlinux:1 where it was
breaking with:

One more fix, this time for debian:experimental-x-mips, x-mips64 and

perf tools: Handle PERF_RECORD_BPF_EVENT
This patch adds basic handling of PERF_RECORD_BPF_EVENT. Tracking of
PERF_RECORD_BPF_EVENT is OFF by default. Option --bpf-event is added to
turn it on.
Committer notes:
Add dummy machine__process_bpf_event() variant that returns zero for
systems without HAVE_LIBBPF_SUPPORT, such as Alpine Linux, unbreaking
the build in such systems.
Remove the needless include <machine.h> from bpf->event.h, provide just
forward declarations for the structs and unions in the parameters, to
reduce compilation time and needless rebuilds when machine.h gets
changed.
Committer testing:
When running with:
# perf record --bpf-event
On an older kernel where PERF_RECORD_BPF_EVENT and PERF_RECORD_KSYMBOL
is not present, we fallback to removing those two bits from
perf_event_attr, making the tool to continue to work on older kernels:
perf_event_attr:

And then proceeds to work without those two features.
As passing --bpf-event is an explicit action performed by the user, perhaps we
should emit a warning telling that the kernel has no such feature, but this can
be done on top of this patch.
Now with a kernel that supports these events, start the 'record --bpf-event -a'
and then run 'perf trace sleep 10000' that will use the BPF
augmented_raw_syscalls.o prebuilt (for another kernel version even) and thus
should generate PERF_RECORD_BPF_EVENT events:
[root@quaco ~]# perf record -e dummy -a --bpf-event

perf, bpf: Introduce PERF_RECORD_BPF_EVENT
For better performance analysis of BPF programs, this patch introduces
PERF_RECORD_BPF_EVENT, a new perf_event_type that exposes BPF program
load/unload information to user space.
Each BPF program may contain up to BPF_MAX_SUBPROGS (256) sub programs.
The following example shows kernel symbols for a BPF program with 7 sub
programs:
ffffffffa0257cf9 t bpf_prog_b07ccb89267cf242_F
ffffffffa02592e1 t bpf_prog_2dcecc18072623fc_F

ffffffffa025dd2c t bpf_prog_a7540d4a39ec1fc7_F
ffffffffa025fcca t bpf_prog_05762d4ade0e3737_F
ffffffffa026108f t bpf_prog_db4bd11e35df90d4_F

ffffffffa0257cf9 t bpf_prog_ae31629322c4b018__dummy_tracepoi
When a bpf program is loaded, PERF_RECORD_KSYMBOL is generated for each
of these sub programs. Therefore, PERF_RECORD_BPF_EVENT is not needed
for simple profiling.
For annotation, user space need to listen to PERF_RECORD_BPF_EVENT and
gather more information about these (sub) programs via sys_bpf.

For the original mode of operation it isn't needed, since we report back

Currently bpf_perf_event_output() returns an error indication, the last

and if so, this failure won't be reported back to its users, fix it.

The number in brackets is the offset into the raw data field of the
sample.
New functions trace_event_sample_raw__init() and s390_sample_raw() are
introduced in the code path to enable interpretation on non s390
platforms. This event bc000 attached raw data is generated only on s390
platform. Correct display on other platforms requires correct endianness
handling.
Committer notes:
Added a init function that sets up a evlist function pointer to avoid
repeated tests on evlist->env and calls to perf_env__name() that
involves normalizing, etc, for each PERF_RECORD_SAMPLE.
Removed needless __maybe_unused from the trace_event_raw()
prototype in session.h, move it to be an static function in evlist.
The 'offset' variable is a size_t, not an u64, fix it to avoid this on
some arches:

perf/core, arch/arm: Use PERF_PMU_CAP_NO_EXCLUDE conditionally
The ARM PMU driver can be used to represent a variety of ARM based
PMUs. Some of these PMUs do not provide support for context
exclusion, where this is the case we advertise the
PERF_PMU_CAP_NO_EXCLUDE capability to ensure that perf prevents us
from handling events where any exclusion flags are set.
Where an ARM PMU driver has the set_event_filter function implemented,
we rely on it to perform exclusion checks. At present some of these
functions do not test for all of the available exclude flags.

perf/core: Add PERF_PMU_CAP_NO_EXCLUDE for exclusion incapable PMUs
Many PMU drivers do not have the capability to exclude counting events
that occur in specific contexts such as idle, kernel, guest, etc. These
drivers indicate this by returning an error in their event_init upon
testing the events attribute flags. This approach is error prone and
often inconsistent.
Let's instead allow PMU drivers to advertise their inability to exclude
based on context via a new capability: PERF_PMU_CAP_NO_EXCLUDE. This
allows the perf core to reject requests for exclusion events where
there is no support in the PMU.

afs: Fix race in async call refcounting
There's a race between afs_make_call() and afs_wake_up_async_call() in the
case that an error is returned from rxrpc_kernel_send_data() after it has
queued the final packet.
afs_make_call() will try and clean up the mess, but the call state may have
been moved on thereby causing afs_process_async_call() to also try and to
delete the call.
Fix this by:
(1) Getting an extra ref for an asynchronous call for the call itself to
hold. This makes sure the call doesn't evaporate on us accidentally
and will allow the call to be retained by the caller in a future
patch. The ref is released on leaving afs_make_call() or
afs_wait_for_call_to_complete().
(2) In the event of an error from rxrpc_kernel_send_data():
(a) Don't set the call state to AFS_CALL_COMPLETE until *after* the
call has been aborted and ended. This prevents
afs_deliver_to_call() from doing anything with any notifications
it gets.
(b) Explicitly end the call immediately to prevent further callbacks.
(c) Cancel any queued async_work and wait for the work if it's
executing. This allows us to be sure the race won't recur when we
change the state. We put the work queue's ref on the call if we
managed to cancel it.
(d) Put the call's ref that we got in (1). This belongs to us as long
as the call is in state AFS_CALL_CL_REQUESTING.

kbuild: mark prepare0 as PHONY to fix external module build
Commit
c3ff2a5193fa ("powerpc/32: add stack protector support")
caused kernel panic on PowerPC when an external module is used with
CONFIG_STACKPROTECTOR because the 'prepare' target was not executed
for the external module build.
Commit
e07db28eea38 ("kbuild: fix single target build for external
module") turned it into a build error because the 'prepare' target is
now executed but the 'prepare0' target is missing for the external
module build.
External module on arm/arm64 with CONFIG_STACKPROTECTOR_PER_TASK is
also broken in the same way.
Move 'PHONY += prepare0' to the common place. GNU Make is fine with
missing rule for phony targets. I also removed the comment which is
wrong irrespective of this commit.
I minimize the change so it can be easily backported to 4.20.x
To fix v4.20, please backport
e07db28eea38 ("kbuild: fix single target
build for external module"), and then this commit.

seccomp: fix UAF in user-trap code
On the failure path, we do an fput() of the listener fd if the filter fails
to install (e.g. because of a TSYNC race that's lost, or if the thread is
killed, etc.). fput() doesn't actually release the fd, it just ads it to a
work queue. Then the thread proceeds to free the filter, even though the
listener struct file has a reference to it.
To fix this, on the failure path let's set the private data to null, so we
know in ->release() to ignore the filter.

sbitmap: Protect swap_lock from hardirq
Because we may call blk_mq_get_driver_tag() directly from
blk_mq_dispatch_rq_list() without holding any lock, then HARDIRQ may
come and the above DEADLOCK is triggered.
Commit
ab53dcfb3e7b ("sbitmap: Protect swap_lock from hardirq") tries to
fix this issue by using 'spin_lock_bh', which isn't enough because we
complete request from hardirq context direclty in case of multiqueue.

RDMA/uverbs: Mark ioctl responses with UVERBS_ATTR_F_VALID_OUTPUT
When the ioctl interface for the write commands was introduced it did
not mark the core response with UVERBS_ATTR_F_VALID_OUTPUT. This causes
rdma-core in userspace to not mark the buffers as written for valgrind.
Along the same lines it turns out we have always missed marking the driver
data. Fixing both of these makes valgrind work properly with rdma-core and
ioctl.

drm/amd/display: Fix disabled cursor on top screen edge
[Why]
The cursor vanishes when touching the top of edge of the screen for
Raven on Linux.
This occurs because the cursor height is not taken into account when
deciding to disable the cursor.
[How]
Factor in the cursor height into the cursor calculations - and mimic
the existing x position calculations.

drm/amd/display: Only get the connector state for VRR when toggled
[Why]
This fixes a stuttering issue that occurs when moving a hardware cursor
when VRR is enabled.
Previously when VRR is enabled atomic check will grab the connector
state for every atomic update. This has to lock the connector in order
to do so. The locking is bad enough by itself for performance, but
it gets worse with what we do just below that - add all the planes
for the CRTC to the commit.
This prevents the cursor fast path from working - there's more than one
plane now. With state->allow_modeset = true on top of this, it also
adds and removes all the planes from the DC context triggering a full
(very slow) update in DC.
[How]
We need the connector state to get the VRR min/max capbilities, but we
only need them when there's a CRTC mode change or when VRR is toggled.
The condition has been updated accordingly.
