Merge tag 'rpmsg-fixes-and-more-for-3.4' of git://git./linux/kernel/git/ohad/remoteproc into next/rpmsg

Fixing and cleaning up several remoteproc and rpmsg issues.

In addition, remoteproc's resource table is converted to a collection
of type-value members, instead of a rigid array of homogeneous structs.

This enables remoteproc to support registration of generic virtio devices,
and not only a single VIRTIO_ID_RPMSG virtio device.

But perhaps more importantly, the resource table overhaul makes it possible
to easily extend it in the future without breaking older images (simply by
defining a new member type, while continuing to support older types).

remoteproc: cleanup resource table parsing paths

rproc_handle_resources() looks for the resource table and then
invokes a resource handler function which it took as a parameter.

This works, but it's a bit unintuitive to follow.

Instead of passing around function pointers, this patch changes
rproc_handle_resource() to just find and return the resource table,
and then the calling sites of rproc_handle_resource() invoke their
resource handlers directly.

remoteproc: remove the hardcoded vring alignment

Remove the hardcoded vring alignment of 4096 bytes,
and instead utilize tha vring alignment as specified in
the resource table.

This is needed for remote processors that have rigid
memory requirement, and which have found the alignment of
4096 bytes to be excessively big.

Now that remoteproc supports any number of virtio devices,
the previous sanity check in omap_rproc_mbox_callback
doesn't make sense anymore.

Remove that so we can start supporting multiple vdevs.

remoteproc: remove the single rpmsg vdev limitation

Now that the resource table supports publishing a virtio device
in a single resource entry, firmware images can start supporting
more than a single vdev.

This patch removes the single vdev limitation of the remoteproc
framework so multi-vdev firmwares can be leveraged: VDEV resource
entries are parsed when the rproc is registered, and as a result
their vrings are set up and the virtio devices are registered
(and they go away when the rproc goes away).

Moreover, we no longer only support VIRTIO_ID_RPMSG vdevs; any
virtio device type goes now. As a result, there's no more any
rpmsg-specific APIs or code in remoteproc: it all becomes generic
virtio handling.

remoteproc: safer boot/shutdown order

Boot the remote processor only after setting up the virtqueues,
and shut it down before deleting them.

Remote processors should obey virtio status changes, and
therefore not manipulate/trigger the virtqueues while the virtio
driver isn't ready, but it's just safer not to rely on that
(plus a vq access might already be inflight while a vdev
status is changed).

We also don't have yet status change notifications, but that's
a temporary limitation.

remoteproc: remoteproc_rpmsg -> remoteproc_virtio

At this point remoteproc can only register a single VIRTIO_ID_RPMSG virtio
device.

This limitation is going away soon: remoteproc is getting support for
registering any number of virtio devices and of any type (as
published by the firmware of the remote processor).

Rename remoteproc_rpmsg.c to remoteproc_virtio.c in preparation of
this generalization work.

remoteproc: resource table overhaul

The resource table is an array of 'struct fw_resource' members, where
each resource entry is expressed as a single member of that array.

This approach got us this far, but it has a few drawbacks:

1. Different resource entries end up overloading the same members of 'struct
   fw_resource' with different meanings. The resulting code is error prone
   and hard to read and maintain.

2. It's impossible to extend 'struct fw_resource' without breaking the
   existing firmware images (and we already want to: we can't introduce the
   new virito device resource entry with the current scheme).

3. It doesn't scale: 'struct fw_resource' must be as big as the largest
   resource entry type. As a result, smaller resource entries end up
   utilizing only small part of it.

This is fixed by defining a dedicated structure for every resource type,
and then converting the resource table to a list of type-value members.
Instead of a rigid array of homogeneous structs, the resource table
is turned into a collection of heterogeneous structures.

This way:
1. Resource entries consume exactly the amount of bytes they need.
2. It's easy to extend: just create a new resource entry structure, and assign
   it a new type.
3. The code is easier to read and maintain: the structures' members names are
   meaningful.

While we're at it, this patch has several other resource table changes:
1. The resource table gains a simple header which contains the
   number of entries in the table and their offsets within the table. This
   makes the parsing code simpler and easier to read.
2. A version member is added to the resource table. Should we change the
   format again, we'll bump up this version to prevent breakage with
   existing firmware images.
3. The VRING and VIRTIO_DEV resource entries are combined to a single
   VDEV entry. This paves the way to supporting multiple VDEV entries.
4. Since we don't really support 64-bit rprocs yet, convert two stray u64
   members to u32.

rpmsg: fix build warning when dma_addr_t is 64-bit

dev_dbg() in rpmsg_probe() made use of the %x formatting that
expects an 'unsigned int' which dma_addr_t is not in cases where
dma_addr_t is 64-bit (CONFIG_ARCH_DMA_ADDR_T_64BIT). Casting to
a 'unsigned long long' and using %llx will avoid this.

rpmsg: fix published buffer length in rpmsg_recv_done

After processing an incoming message, always publish the real size
of its containing buffer when putting it back on the available rx ring.

Using any different value might erroneously limit the remote processor
(leading it to think the buffer is smaller than it really is).

rpmsg: fix name service endpoint leak

The name service endpoint wasn't destroyed, so fix it.

This is achieved by introducing an internal __rpmsg_destroy_ept
function which doesn't assume the given ept is bound to an rpmsg
channel (much like the existing __rpmsg_create_ept).

This is needed because the name service ept belongs to the rpmsg bus,
and is never bound with a specific rpdev.

remoteproc: don't use virtio's weak barriers

When creating a virtqueue for rpmsg, tell virtio we're not interested
in "weak" smp barriers, since we're talking to a real device.

On ARM, this means using a DSB instead of a DMB, which is needed
for platforms that kick the remote processor using some kind of
a mailbox device mapped to Device memory (otherwise the kick can
jump ahead and wake the remote processor before it has observed
the changes to the vrings).

There isn't any binary change in sight or evidence of any stability
issue, but as we just begin to get traction we can't rule them out
completely.

To be on the safe side, let's mark rpmsg as EXPERIMENTAL, and remove

remoteproc: depend on EXPERIMENTAL

Remoteproc is still under development and as it gets traction we
definitely expect to do some changes in the binary format (most probably
only in the resource table, e.g. the upcoming move to TLV-based entries).

Active testing and use of remoteproc is most welcome, but we don't want
users to expect backward binary compatibility with the preliminary
images we have today.

Therefore mark remoteproc as EXPERIMENTAL, and explicitly inform the user
about this when a new remote processor is registered.

pcmcia: fix socket refcount decrementing on each resume

This fixes a memory-corrupting bug: not only does it cause the warning,
but as a result of dropping the refcount to zero, it causes the
pcmcia_socket0 device structure to be freed while it still has
references, causing slab caches corruption.  A fatal oops quickly
follows this warning - often even just a 'dmesg' following the warning
causes the kernel to oops.

While testing suspend/resume on an ARM device with PCMCIA support, and a
CF card inserted, I found that after five suspend and resumes, the
kernel would complain, and shortly die after with slab corruption.

As the message doesn't give a clue about which kobject, and the built-in
debugging in drivers/base/power/main.c happens too late, this was added
right before each get_device():

As can be seen, the original function called pcmcia_get_socket() and
pcmcia_put_socket() around the guts, whereas the replacement code
calls pcmcia_put_socket() only in one path.  This creates an imbalance
in the refcounting.

Testing with pcmcia_put_socket() put removed shows that the bug is gone:

mm: fix UP THP spin_is_locked BUGs

Fix CONFIG_TRANSPARENT_HUGEPAGE=y CONFIG_SMP=n CONFIG_DEBUG_VM=y
CONFIG_DEBUG_SPINLOCK=n kernel: spin_is_locked() is then always false,
and so triggers some BUGs in Transparent HugePage codepaths.

asm-generic/bug.h mentions this problem, and provides a WARN_ON_SMP(x);
but being too lazy to add VM_BUG_ON_SMP, BUG_ON_SMP, WARN_ON_SMP_ONCE,
VM_WARN_ON_SMP_ONCE, just test NR_CPUS != 1 in the existing VM_BUG_ONs.

drivers/leds/leds-lm3530.c: fix setting pltfm->als_vmax

In current code, pltfm->als_vmin is set to LM3530_ALS_WINDOW_mV and
pltfm->als_vmax is 0.  This does not make sense.  I think what we want
here is setting pltfm->als_vmax to LM3530_ALS_WINDOW_mV.

Both als_vmin and als_vmax local variables will be set to
pltfm->als_vmin and pltfm->als_vmax by a few lines latter.  Thus also
remove a redundant assignment for als_vmin and als_vmax in this patch.

When isolating pages for migration, migration starts at the start of a
zone while the free scanner starts at the end of the zone.  Migration
avoids entering a new zone by never going beyond the free scanned.

Unfortunately, in very rare cases nodes can overlap.  When this happens,

The fix is straight-forward.  isolate_migratepages() has to make a
similar check to isolate_freepage to ensure that it never isolates pages
from a zone it does not hold the LRU lock for.

This was discovered in a 3.0-based kernel but it affects 3.1.x, 3.2.x
and current mainline.

remoteproc: remove unused resource type

RSC_VIRTIO_CFG isn't being used, so remove it.

Originally it was introduced to overcome a resource table limitation
that prevented describing a virtio device in a single resource table
entry.

The plan though is to describe resource table entries in a TLV fashion,
where each entry will consume the amount of space it requires,
so the original limitation is anyway temporary.

remoteproc: avoid registering a virtio device if not supported

Let remoteproc know when the firmware doesn't support any virtio
functionality, so registering a virtio device can be avoided.

This is needed for remote processors that doesn't require any

remoteproc: do not require an iommu

Not all remote processors employ an IOMMU, so do not error out
on !iommu_present().

Note: we currently still use iommu_present() to tell whether we need
to configure an IOMMU or not. That works for simple cases, but will
easily fail with more complicated ones (e.g. where an IOMMU exists,
but not all remote processors use it). When those use cases show up,
we will solve them by introducing something like remoteproc hw
capabilities.

samples/rpmsg: add an rpmsg driver sample

Add an rpmsg driver sample, which demonstrates how to communicate with
an AMP-configured remote processor over the rpmsg bus.

Note how once probed, the driver can immediately start sending messages
using the rpmsg_send() API, without having to worry about creating endpoints
or allocating rpmsg addresses: all that work is done by the rpmsg bus,
and the required information is already embedded in the rpmsg channel
that the driver is probed with.

In this sample, the driver simply sends a "Hello World!" message to the remote
processor repeatedly.

rpmsg: add virtio-based remote processor messaging bus

Add a virtio-based inter-processor communication bus, which enables
kernel drivers to communicate with entities, running on remote
processors, over shared memory using a simple messaging protocol.

Every pair of AMP processors share two vrings, which are used to send
and receive the messages over shared memory.

The header of every message sent on the rpmsg bus contains src and dst
addresses, which make it possible to multiplex several rpmsg channels on
the same vring.

Every rpmsg channel is a device on this bus. When a channel is added,
and an appropriate rpmsg driver is found and probed, it is also assigned
a local rpmsg address, which is then bound to the driver's callback.

When inbound messages carry the local address of a bound driver,
its callback is invoked by the bus.

This patch provides a kernel interface only; user space interfaces
will be later exposed by kernel users of this rpmsg bus.

remoteproc/omap: add a remoteproc driver for OMAP4

Add a remoteproc driver for OMAP4, so we can boot the dual-M3 and
and DSP subsystems.

Use the omap_device_* API to control the hardware state, and utilize
the OMAP mailbox to interrupt the remote processor when a new message
is pending (the mailbox payload is used to tell it which virtqueue was
the message placed in).

Conversely, when an inbound mailbox message arrives, tell the remoteproc
core which virtqueue is triggered.

Later we will also use the mailbox payload to signal omap-specific
events like remote crashes (which will be used to trigger remoteproc
recovery) and power management transitions. At that point we will also
extend the remoteproc core to support this.

remoteproc: create rpmsg virtio device

Create an rpmsg virtio device to allow message-based communication
with the remote processor (but only if supported by its firmware).

There are several advantages to provide this functionality at
the remoteproc-level:
- to support it, platforms only have to provide their own ->kick()
  handler; no need to duplicate the rest of the code.
- the virtio device is created only when the remote processor is
  registered and ready to go. No need to depend on initcall magic.
  moreover, we only add the virtio device if the firmware really
  supports it, and only after we know the supported virtio device features.
- correct device model hierarchy can be set, and that is useful
  for natural power management and DMA API behavior.
- when the remote processor crashes (or removed) we only need
  to remove the virtio device, and the driver core will take care of
  the rest. No need to implement any out-of-bound notifiers.
- we can now easily bind the virtio device to its rproc handle, and
  this way we don't need any name-based remoteproc ->get() API.

Currently we only support creating a single rpmsg virtio device per
remote processor, but later this is going to be extended to support
creating numerous virtio devices of other types too (block, net,
console...).

remoteproc: add framework for controlling remote processors

Modern SoCs typically employ a central symmetric multiprocessing (SMP)
application processor running Linux, with several other asymmetric
multiprocessing (AMP) heterogeneous processors running different instances
of operating system, whether Linux or any other flavor of real-time OS.

Booting a remote processor in an AMP configuration typically involves:
- Loading a firmware which contains the OS image
- Allocating and providing it required system resources (e.g. memory)
- Programming an IOMMU (when relevant)
- Powering on the device

This patch introduces a generic framework that allows drivers to do
that. In the future, this framework will also include runtime power
management and error recovery.

ALSA: oxygen, virtuoso: fix exchanged L/R volumes of aux and CD inputs

The driver accidentally exchanged the left/right fields for stereo AC'97
mixer registers.  This affected only the aux and CD inputs because the
line input bypasses the AC'97 codec and the mic input is mono; cards
without AC'97 (Xonar DS/DG/HDAV Slim, HG2PCI, HiFier) were not affected.

the Android suspend ignore code for idle_bias_off CODECs.  That one is
actually a regression fix as some of the new power savings that have
been introduced confused the suspend ignore code, making devices that
are active for non-audio reasons look like they are idle causing them to
be suspended instead of being kept active.

target: Fix unsupported WRITE_SAME sense payload

This patch fixes a bug in target-core where unsupported WRITE_SAME ops
from a target_check_write_same_discard() failure was incorrectly
returning CHECK_CONDITION w/ TCM_INVALID_CDB_FIELD sense data.
This was causing some clients to not properly fall back, so go ahead
and use the correct TCM_UNSUPPORTED_SCSI_OPCODE sense for this case.

iscsi: use IP_FREEBIND socket option

Use IP_FREEBIND socket option so that iscsi portal configuration with
explicit IP addresses can happen during boot, before network interfaces
have been assigned IPs.

This is especially important on systemd based Linux boxes where system
boot happens asynchronously and non-trivial configuration must be done
to get targetcli.service to start synchronously after the network is
configured.

target: Fix target_submit_cmd() exception handling

This patch fixes a bug in target_submit_cmd() where the failure path
for transport_generic_allocate_tasks() made a direct call to
transport_send_check_condition_and_sense() and not calling the
final target_put_sess_cmd() release callback.

For transport_generic_allocate_tasks() failures, use the proper call to
transport_generic_request_failure() to handle kref_put() along
with potential internal queue full response processing.

It also makes transport_lookup_cmd_lun() failures in
target_submit_cmd() use transport_send_check_condition_and_sense() and
target_put_sess_cmd() directly to avoid se_cmd->se_dev reference in
transport_generic_request_failure() handling.

Finally it drops the out_check_cond: label and use direct reference for
allocate task failures, and per-se_device queue_full handling is
currently not supported for transport_lookup_cmd_lun() failure
descriptors due to se_device dependency.

target: Change target_submit_cmd() to return void

Retval not very useful, and may even be harmful. Once submitted, fabrics
should expect a sense error if anything goes wrong. All fabrics checking
of this retval are useless or broken:

fc checks it just to emit more debug output.
ib_srpt trickles retval up, then it is ignored.
qla2xxx trickles it up, which then causes a bug because the abort goto
in qla_target.c thinks cmd hasn't been sent to target.

Just returning nothing is best.

target: accept REQUEST_SENSE with 18bytes

WindowsXP+BOT issues a MODE_SENSE request with page 0x1c which is not
suppoerted by target. Target rejects that command with
TCM_INVALID_CDB_FIELD, so far so good. On BOT I can't send the SENSE
response back, instead I can only reply that an error occured. The next
thing happens is a REQUEST_SENSE request with 18 bytes length. Since the
check here is more than 18 bytes I have to NACK that request as well.
This is not really required: We check for some additional room, but we
never use it. The additional length is set to 0xa so the total length is
0xa + 8 = 18 which is fine with my 18 bytes.

md: two small fixes to handling interrupt resync.

1/ If a resync is aborted we should record how far we got
 (recovery_cp) the last request that we know has completed
 (->curr_resync_completed) rather than the last request that was
 submitted (->curr_resync).

2/ When a resync aborts we still want to update the metadata with
 any changes, so set MD_CHANGE_DEVS even if we 'skip'.

Setting the task name is done within setup_new_exec() by accessing
bprm->filename. However this happens after flush_old_exec().
This may result in a use after free bug, flush_old_exec() may
"complete" vfork_done, which will wake up the parent which in turn
may free the passed in filename.
To fix this add a new tcomm field in struct linux_binprm which
contains the now early generated task name until it is used.

Power management fixes for 3.3-rc3

Three power management regression fixes, one for a recent regression introcuded
by the freezer changes during the 3.3 merge window and two for regressions
in cpuidle (resulting from PM QoS changes) and in the hibernate user space
interface, both introduced during the 3.2 development cycle.

They include:

* Two hibernate (s2disk) regression fixes from Srivatsa S. Bhat (for
 regressions introduced during the 3.3 merge window and during the 3.2
 development cycle).

* A cpuidle fix from Venki Pallipadi for a regression resulting from PM QoS
 changes during the 3.2 development cycle causing cpuidle to work incorrectly
 for CONFIG_PM unset.

PM / QoS: CPU C-state breakage with PM Qos change

Looks like change "PM QoS: Move and rename the implementation files"
merged during the 3.2 development cycle made PM QoS depend on
CONFIG_PM which depends on (PM_SLEEP || PM_RUNTIME).

That breaks CPU C-states with kernels not having these CONFIGs, causing CPUs
to spend time in Polling loop idle instead of going into deep C-states,
consuming way way more power. This is with either acpi idle or intel idle
enabled.

Either CONFIG_PM should be enabled with any pm_qos users or
the !CONFIG_PM pm_qos_request() should return sane defaults not to break
the existing users. Here's is the patch for the latter option.

PM / Freezer: Thaw only kernel threads if freezing of kernel threads fails

If freezing of kernel threads fails, we are expected to automatically
thaw tasks in the error recovery path. However, at times, we encounter
situations in which we would like the automatic error recovery path
to thaw only the kernel threads, because we want to be able to do
some more cleanup before we thaw userspace. Something like:

error = freeze_kernel_threads();
if (error) {
/* Do some cleanup */

/* Only then thaw userspace tasks*/
thaw_processes();
}

An example of such a situation is where we freeze/thaw filesystems
during suspend/hibernation. There, if freezing of kernel threads
fails, we would like to thaw the frozen filesystems before thawing
the userspace tasks.

So, modify freeze_kernel_threads() to thaw only kernel threads in
case of freezing failure. And change suspend_freeze_processes()
accordingly. (At the same time, let us also get rid of the rather
cryptic usage of the conditional operator (:?) in that function.)

[rjw: In fact, this patch fixes a regression introduced during the
 3.3 merge window, because without it thaw_processes() may be called
 before swsusp_free() in some situations and that may lead to massive
 memory allocation failures.]

   "ARM: restart: bcmring: use new restart hook"

breaks building of this platform, since what used to be the
last field of the MACHINE_START/END block didn't have a
trailing comma.  Once another field was added below, we get:

The reason is that it breaks 16 bits NAND flash as it was reported by
Nikolaus Voss and confirmed by Eric Bénard.
