samples/bpf: Fix incorrect use of strlen in xdp_redirect_cpu
Commit
b599015f044d ("samples/bpf: Fix application of sizeof to pointer")
tried to fix a bug where sizeof was incorrectly applied to a pointer instead
of the array string was being copied to, to find the destination buffer size,
but ended up using strlen, which is still incorrect. However, on closer look
ifname_buf has no other use, hence directly use optarg.

tools/runqslower: Fix cross-build
Commit
be79505caf3f ("tools/runqslower: Install libbpf headers when

doesn't work when cross-building:
make ARCH=arm64 CROSS_COMPILE=aarch64-linux-gnu- -C tools/bpf/runqslower O=/tmp/runqslower
...
LINK /tmp/runqslower/bpftool/bpftool
/usr/bin/ld: /tmp/runqslower/libbpf/libbpf.a(libbpf-in.o): Relocations in generic ELF (EM: 183)
/usr/bin/ld: /tmp/runqslower/libbpf/libbpf.a: error adding symbols: file in wrong format
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status
When cross-building, the target architecture differs from the host. The
bpftool used for building runqslower is executed on the host, and thus
must use a different libbpf than that used for runqslower itself.
Remove the LIBBPF_OUTPUT and LIBBPF_DESTDIR parameters, so the bpftool
build makes its own library if necessary.
In the selftests, pass the host bpftool, already a prerequisite for the
runqslower recipe, as BPFTOOL_OUTPUT. The runqslower Makefile will use
the bpftool that's already built for selftests instead of making a new
one.

samples/bpf: Fix summary per-sec stats in xdp_sample_user
sample_summary_print() uses accumulated period to calculate and display
per-sec averages. This period gets incremented by sampling interval each
time a new sample is formed, and thus equals to the number of samples
collected multiplied by this interval.
However, the totals are being calculated differently, they receive current
sample statistics already divided by the interval gotten as a difference
between sample timestamps for better precision -- in other words, they are
being incremented by the per-sec values each sample.
This leads to the excessive division of summary per-secs when interval != 1
sec. It is obvious pps couldn't become two times lower just from picking a
different sampling interval value:
$ samples/bpf/xdp_redirect_cpu -p xdp_prognum_n1_inverse_qnum -c all
-s -d 6 -i 1
< snip >
Packets received : 2,197,230,321
Average packets/s : 22,887,816
Packets redirected : 2,197,230,472
Average redir/s : 22,887,817
$ samples/bpf/xdp_redirect_cpu -p xdp_prognum_n1_inverse_qnum -c all
-s -d 6 -i 2

Average packets/s : 11,397,607
Packets redirected : 159,566,995
Average redir/s : 11,397,642
This can be easily fixed by treating the divisor not as a period, but rather
as a total number of samples, and thus incrementing it by 1 instead of
interval. As a nice side effect, we can now remove so-named argument from a
couple of functions. Let us also create an "alias" for sample_output::rx_cnt::pps
named 'num' using a union since this field is used to store this number (period
previously) as well, and the resulting counter-intuitive code might've been a
reason for this bug.

selftests/bpf: Check map in map pruning
Ensure that two registers with a map_value loaded from a nested
map are considered equivalent for the purpose of state pruning
and don't cause the verifier to revisit a pruning point.
This uses a rather crude match on the number of insns visited by
the verifier, which might change in the future. I've therefore
tried to keep the code as "unpruneable" as possible by having
the code paths only converge on the second to last instruction.
Should you require to adjust the test in the future, reducing the
number of processed instructions should always be safe. Increasing
them could cause another regression, so proceed with caution.

xsk: Fix crash on double free in buffer pool
Fix a crash in the buffer pool allocator when a buffer is double
freed. It is possible to trigger this behavior not only from a faulty
driver, but also from user space like this: Create a zero-copy AF_XDP
socket. Load an XDP program that will issue XDP_DROP for all
packets. Put the same umem buffer into the fill ring multiple times,
then bind the socket and send some traffic. This will crash the kernel
as the XDP_DROP action triggers one call to xsk_buff_free()/xp_free()
for every packet dropped. Each call will add the corresponding buffer
entry to the free_list and increase the free_list_cnt. Some entries
will have been added multiple times due to the same buffer being
freed. The buffer allocation code will then traverse this broken list
and since the same buffer is in the list multiple times, it will try
to delete the same buffer twice from the list leading to a crash.
The fix for this is just to test that the buffer has not been added
before in xp_free(). If it has been, just return from the function and
do not put it in the free_list a second time.
Note that this bug was not present in the code before the commit
referenced in the Fixes tag. That code used one list entry per
allocated buffer, so multiple frees did not have any side effects. But
the commit below optimized the usage of the pool and only uses a
single entry per buffer in the umem, meaning that multiple
allocations/frees of the same buffer will also only use one entry,
thus leading to the problem.

This reverts commit
2a4d9408c9e8b6f6fc150c66f3fef755c9e20d4a.
Robert reported a NULL pointer dereference caused by the PCI core
(local_pci_probe()) calling the i2c_designware_pci driver's
.runtime_resume() method before the .probe() method. i2c_dw_pci_resume()
depends on initialization done by i2c_dw_pci_probe().
Prior to
2a4d9408c9e8 ("PCI: Use to_pci_driver() instead of
pci_dev->driver"), pci_pm_runtime_resume() avoided calling the
.runtime_resume() method because pci_dev->driver had not been set yet.
2a4d9408c9e8 and
b5f9c644eb1b ("PCI: Remove struct pci_dev->driver"),
removed pci_dev->driver, replacing it by device->driver, which *has* been
set by this time, so pci_pm_runtime_resume() called the .runtime_resume()
method when it previously had not.

mm/migrate.c: remove MIGRATE_PFN_LOCKED
MIGRATE_PFN_LOCKED is used to indicate to migrate_vma_prepare() that a
source page was already locked during migrate_vma_collect(). If it
wasn't then the a second attempt is made to lock the page. However if
the first attempt failed it's unlikely a second attempt will succeed,
and the retry adds complexity. So clean this up by removing the retry
and MIGRATE_PFN_LOCKED flag.
Destination pages are also meant to have the MIGRATE_PFN_LOCKED flag
set, but nothing actually checks that.

There is no need to validate the file-backed page's refcount before

the folio_ref_freeze() to validate if the page has the expected refcount
before migrating its mapping.
Moreover we are always under the page lock when migrating the page
mapping, which means nowhere else can remove it from the page cache, so
we can remove the xas_load() validation under the i_pages lock.

mm: allow only SLUB on PREEMPT_RT
Memory allocators may disable interrupts or preemption as part of the
allocation and freeing process. For PREEMPT_RT it is important that
these sections remain deterministic and short and therefore don't depend
on the size of the memory to allocate/ free or the inner state of the
algorithm.
Until v3.12-RT the SLAB allocator was an option but involved several
changes to meet all the requirements. The SLUB design fits better with
PREEMPT_RT model and so the SLAB patches were dropped in the 3.12-RT
patchset. Comparing the two allocator, SLUB outperformed SLAB in both
throughput (time needed to allocate and free memory) and the maximal
latency of the system measured with cyclictest during hackbench.
SLOB was never evaluated since it was unlikely that it preforms better
than SLAB. During a quick test, the kernel crashed with SLOB enabled
during boot.
Disable SLAB and SLOB on PREEMPT_RT.

net: fix premature exit from NAPI state polling in napi_disable()
Commit
719c57197010 ("net: make napi_disable() symmetric with
enable") accidentally introduced a bug sometimes leading to a kernel
BUG when bringing an iface up/down under heavy traffic load.
Prior to this commit, napi_disable() was polling n->state until
none of (NAPIF_STATE_SCHED | NAPIF_STATE_NPSVC) is set and then
always flip them. Now there's a possibility to get away with the
NAPIF_STATE_SCHE unset as 'continue' drops us to the cmpxchg()
call with an uninitialized variable, rather than straight to
another round of the state check.
Error path looks like:
napi_disable():
unsigned long val, new; /* new is uninitialized */
do {
val = READ_ONCE(n->state); /* NAPIF_STATE_NPSVC and/or
NAPIF_STATE_SCHED is set */
if (val & (NAPIF_STATE_SCHED | NAPIF_STATE_NPSVC)) { /* true */
usleep_range(20, 200);
continue; /* go straight to the condition check */
}
new = val | <...>
} while (cmpxchg(&n->state, val, new) != val); /* state == val, cmpxchg()
writes garbage */
napi_enable():
do {
val = READ_ONCE(n->state);
BUG_ON(!test_bit(NAPI_STATE_SCHED, &val)); /* 50/50 boom */
<...>
while the typical BUG splat is like:

calling do_exit(SIGKILL) instead of calling force_sig(SIGKILL).
In the review a deficiency in force_fatal_sig and force_sig_seccomp

"This contains the missing prctl uapi pieces for PR_SCHED_CORE.
In order to activate core scheduling the caller is expected to specify
the scope of the new core scheduling domain.
For example, passing 2 in the 4th argument of
prctl(PR_SCHED_CORE, PR_SCHED_CORE_CREATE, <pid>, 2, 0);
would indicate that the new core scheduling domain encompasses all
tasks in the process group of <pid>. Specifying 0 would only create a
core scheduling domain for the thread identified by <pid> and 2 would
encompass the whole thread-group of <pid>.
Note, the values 0, 1, and 2 correspond to PIDTYPE_PID, PIDTYPE_TGID,
and PIDTYPE_PGID. A first version tried to expose those values
directly to which I objected because:
- PIDTYPE_* is an enum that is kernel internal which we should not
expose to userspace directly.
- PIDTYPE_* indicates what a given struct pid is used for it doesn't
express a scope.
But what the 4th argument of PR_SCHED_CORE prctl() expresses is the
scope of the operation, i.e. the scope of the core scheduling domain
at creation time. So Eugene's patch now simply introduces three new
defines PR_SCHED_CORE_SCOPE_THREAD, PR_SCHED_CORE_SCOPE_THREAD_GROUP,
and PR_SCHED_CORE_SCOPE_PROCESS_GROUP. They simply express what
happens.
This has been on the mailing list for quite a while with all relevant
scheduler folks Cced. I announced multiple times that I'd pick this up
if I don't see or her anyone else doing it. None of this touches
proper scheduler code but only concerns uapi so I think this is fine.
With core scheduling being quite common now for vm managers (e.g.
moving individual vcpu threads into their own core scheduling domain)
and container managers (e.g. moving the init process into its own core
scheduling domain and letting all created children inherit it) having
to rely on raw numbers passed as the 4th argument in prctl() is a bit
annoying and everyone is starting to come up with their own defines"

"Various places in the kernel have picked up pidfds.
The two most recent additions have probably been the ability to use
pidfds in bpf maps and the usage of pidfds in mm-based syscalls such
as process_mrelease() and process_madvise().
The same pattern to turn a pidfd into a struct task exists in two
places. One of those places used PIDTYPE_TGID while the other one used
PIDTYPE_PID even though it is clearly documented in all pidfd-helpers
that pidfds __currently__ only refer to thread-group leaders (subject
to change in the future if need be).
This isn't a bug per se but has the potential to be one if we allow
pidfds to refer to individual threads. If that happens we want to
audit all codepaths that make use of them to ensure they can deal with
pidfds refering to individual threads.
This adds a simple helper to turn a pidfd into a struct task making it
easy to grep for such places. Plus, it gets rid of code-duplication"

The resetting of the entire ring buffer use to simply go through and reset

But this was very slow, due to performing a synchronization for each CPU.
The code was reshuffled to do one disabling of all CPU buffers, followed
by a single RCU synchronization, and then the resetting of each of the CPU
buffers. But unfortunately, the mutex that prevented multiple occurrences
of resetting the buffer was not moved to the upper function, and there is
nothing to protect from it.

selftests: forwarding: Fix packet matching in mirroring selftests
In commit
6de6e46d27ef ("cls_flower: Fix inability to match GRE/IPIP
packets"), cls_flower was fixed to match an outer packet of a tunneled
packet as would be expected, rather than dissecting to the inner packet and
matching on that.
This fix uncovered several issues in packet matching in mirroring
selftests:
- in mirror_gre_bridge_1d_vlan.sh and mirror_gre_vlan_bridge_1q.sh, the
vlan_ethtype match is copied around as "ip", even as some of the tests
are running over ip6gretap. This is fixed by using an "ipv6" for
vlan_ethtype in the ip6gretap tests.
- in mirror_gre_changes.sh, a filter to count GRE packets is set up to
match TTL of 50. This used to trigger in the offloaded datapath, where
the envelope TTL was matched, but not in the software datapath, which
considered TTL of the inner packet. Now that both match consistently, all
the packets were double-counted. This is fixed by marking the filter as
skip_hw, leaving only the SW datapath component active.

net: marvell: mvpp2: Fix wrong SerDes reconfiguration order
Commit
bfe301ebbc94 ("net: mvpp2: convert to use
mac_prepare()/mac_finish()") introduced a bug wherein it leaves the MAC
RESET register asserted after mac_finish(), due to wrong order of
function calls.
Before it was:
.mac_config()
mvpp22_mode_reconfigure()
assert reset
mvpp2_xlg_config()
deassert reset
Now it is:
.mac_prepare()
.mac_config()
mvpp2_xlg_config()
deassert reset
.mac_finish()
mvpp2_xlg_config()
assert reset
Obviously this is wrong.
This bug is triggered when phylink tries to change the PHY interface
mode from a GMAC mode (sgmii, 1000base-x, 2500base-x) to XLG mode
(10gbase-r, xaui). The XLG mode does not work since reset is left
asserted. Only after
ifconfig down && ifconfig up
is called will the XLG mode work.
Move the call to mvpp22_mode_reconfigure() to .mac_prepare()
implementation. Since some of the subsequent functions need to know
whether the interface is being changed, we unfortunately also need to
pass around the new interface mode before setting port->phy_interface.

amt: use cancel_delayed_work() instead of flush_delayed_work() in amt_fini()
When the amt module is being removed, it calls flush_delayed_work() to exit
source_gc_wq. But it wouldn't be exited properly because the
amt_source_gc_work(), which is the callback function of source_gc_wq
internally calls mod_delayed_work() again.
So, amt_source_gc_work() would be called after the amt module is removed.
Therefore kernel panic would occur.
In order to avoid it, cancel_delayed_work() should be used instead of
flush_delayed_work().

modprobe amt
modprobe -rv amt

ipc/ipc_sysctl.c: remove fallback for !CONFIG_PROC_SYSCTL
Compilation of ipc/ipc_sysctl.c is controlled by
obj-$(CONFIG_SYSVIPC_SYSCTL)
[see ipc/Makefile]
And CONFIG_SYSVIPC_SYSCTL depends on SYSCTL
[see init/Kconfig]
An SYSCTL is selected by PROC_SYSCTL.
[see fs/proc/Kconfig]
Thus: #ifndef CONFIG_PROC_SYSCTL in ipc/ipc_sysctl.c is impossible, the
fallback can be removed.

ipc: check checkpoint_restore_ns_capable() to modify C/R proc files
This commit removes the requirement to be root to modify sem_next_id,
msg_next_id and shm_next_id and checks checkpoint_restore_ns_capable

Since those files are specific to the IPC namespace, there is no reason
they should require root privileges. This is similar to ns_last_pid,
which also only checks checkpoint_restore_ns_capable.

selftests/kselftest/runner/run_one(): allow running non-executable files
When running a test program, 'run_one()' checks if the program has the
execution permission and fails if it doesn't. However, it's easy to
mistakenly lose the permissions, as some common tools like 'diff' don't
support the permission change well[1]. Compared to that, making mistakes
in the test program's path would only rare, as those are explicitly listed
in 'TEST_PROGS'. Therefore, it might make more sense to resolve the
situation on our own and run the program.
For this reason, this commit makes the test program runner function still
print the warning message but to try parsing the interpreter of the
program and to explicitly run it with the interpreter, in this case.

virtio-mem: disallow mapping virtio-mem memory via /dev/mem
We don't want user space to be able to map virtio-mem device memory
directly (e.g., via /dev/mem) in order to have guarantees that in a sane
setup we'll never accidentially access unplugged memory within the
device-managed region of a virtio-mem device, just as required by the
virtio-spec.
As soon as the virtio-mem driver is loaded, the device region is visible
in /proc/iomem via the parent device region. From that point on user
space is aware of the device region and we want to disallow mapping
anything inside that region (where we will dynamically (un)plug memory)
until the driver has been unloaded cleanly and e.g., another driver might
take over.
By creating our parent IORESOURCE_SYSTEM_RAM resource with
IORESOURCE_EXCLUSIVE, we will disallow any /dev/mem access to our device
region until the driver was unloaded cleanly and removed the parent
region. This will work even though only some memory blocks are actually
currently added to Linux and appear as busy in the resource tree.
So access to the region from user space is only possible
a) if we don't load the virtio-mem driver.
b) after unloading the virtio-mem driver cleanly.
Don't build virtio-mem if access to /dev/mem cannot be restricticted -- if
we have CONFIG_DEVMEM=y but CONFIG_STRICT_DEVMEM is not set.

kernel/resource: disallow access to exclusive system RAM regions
virtio-mem dynamically exposes memory inside a device memory region as
system RAM to Linux, coordinating with the hypervisor which parts are
actually "plugged" and consequently usable/accessible.
On the one hand, the virtio-mem driver adds/removes whole memory blocks,
creating/removing busy IORESOURCE_SYSTEM_RAM resources, on the other
hand, it logically (un)plugs memory inside added memory blocks,
dynamically either exposing them to the buddy or hiding them from the
buddy and marking them PG_offline.
In contrast to physical devices, like a DIMM, the virtio-mem driver is
required to actually make use of any of the device-provided memory,
because it performs the handshake with the hypervisor. virtio-mem
memory cannot simply be access via /dev/mem without a driver.
There is no safe way to:
a) Access plugged memory blocks via /dev/mem, as they might contain
unplugged holes or might get silently unplugged by the virtio-mem
driver and consequently turned inaccessible.
b) Access unplugged memory blocks via /dev/mem because the virtio-mem
driver is required to make them actually accessible first.
The virtio-spec states that unplugged memory blocks MUST NOT be written,
and only selected unplugged memory blocks MAY be read. We want to make
sure, this is the case in sane environments -- where the virtio-mem driver
was loaded.
We want to make sure that in a sane environment, nobody "accidentially"
accesses unplugged memory inside the device managed region. For example,
a user might spot a memory region in /proc/iomem and try accessing it via
/dev/mem via gdb or dumping it via something else. By the time the mmap()
happens, the memory might already have been removed by the virtio-mem
driver silently: the mmap() would succeeed and user space might
accidentially access unplugged memory.
So once the driver was loaded and detected the device along the
device-managed region, we just want to disallow any access via /dev/mem to
it.
In an ideal world, we would mark the whole region as busy ("owned by a
driver") and exclude it; however, that would be wrong, as we don't really
have actual system RAM at these ranges added to Linux ("busy system RAM").
Instead, we want to mark such ranges as "not actual busy system RAM but
still soft-reserved and prepared by a driver for future use."
Let's teach iomem_is_exclusive() to reject access to any range with
"IORESOURCE_SYSTEM_RAM | IORESOURCE_EXCLUSIVE", even if not busy and even
if "iomem=relaxed" is set. Introduce EXCLUSIVE_SYSTEM_RAM to make it
easier for applicable drivers to depend on this setting in their Kconfig.
For now, there are no applicable ranges and we'll modify virtio-mem next
to properly set IORESOURCE_EXCLUSIVE on the parent resource container it
creates to contain all actual busy system RAM added via
add_memory_driver_managed().

kernel/resource: clean up and optimize iomem_is_exclusive()
Patch series "virtio-mem: disallow mapping virtio-mem memory via /dev/mem", v5.
Let's add the basic infrastructure to exclude some physical memory regions
marked as "IORESOURCE_SYSTEM_RAM" completely from /dev/mem access, even
though they are not marked IORESOURCE_BUSY and even though "iomem=relaxed"
is set. Resource IORESOURCE_EXCLUSIVE for that purpose instead of adding
new flags to express something similar to "soft-busy" or "not busy yet,
but already prepared by a driver and not to be mapped by user space".
Use it for virtio-mem, to disallow mapping any virtio-mem memory via
/dev/mem to user space after the virtio-mem driver was loaded.

scripts/gdb: handle split debug for vmlinux
This is related to two previous changes. Commit
dfe4529ee4d3
("scripts/gdb: find vmlinux where it was before") and commit
da036ae14762
("scripts/gdb: handle split debug").
Although Chrome OS has been using the debug suffix for modules for a
while, it has just recently started using it for vmlinux as well. That
means we've now got to improve the detection of "vmlinux" to also handle
that it might end with ".debug".

kcov: replace local_irq_save() with a local_lock_t
The kcov code mixes local_irq_save() and spin_lock() in
kcov_remote_{start|end}(). This creates a warning on PREEMPT_RT because
local_irq_save() disables interrupts and spin_lock_t is turned into a
sleeping lock which can not be acquired in a section with disabled
interrupts.
The kcov_remote_lock is used to synchronize the access to the hash-list
kcov_remote_map. The local_irq_save() block protects access to the
per-CPU data kcov_percpu_data.
There is no compelling reason to change the lock type to raw_spin_lock_t
to make it work with local_irq_save(). Changing it would require to
move memory allocation (in kcov_remote_add()) and deallocation outside
of the locked section.
Adding an unlimited amount of entries to the hashlist will increase the
IRQ-off time during lookup. It could be argued that this is debug code
and the latency does not matter. There is however no need to do so and
it would allow to use this facility in an RT enabled build.
Using a local_lock_t instead of local_irq_save() has the befit of adding
a protection scope within the source which makes it obvious what is
protected. On a !PREEMPT_RT && !LOCKDEP build the local_lock_irqsave()
maps directly to local_irq_save() so there is overhead at runtime.
Replace the local_irq_save() section with a local_lock_t.

kcov: avoid enable+disable interrupts if !in_task()
kcov_remote_start() may need to allocate memory in the in_task() case
(otherwise per-CPU memory has been pre-allocated) and therefore requires
enabled interrupts.
The interrupts are enabled before checking if the allocation is required
so if no allocation is required then the interrupts are needlessly enabled
and disabled again.
Enable interrupts only if memory allocation is performed.
