Merge tag 'irqchip-5.16' into irq/core
Merge irqchip updates for Linux 5.16 from Marc Zyngier:
- A large cross-arch rework to move irq_enter()/irq_exit() into
the arch code, and removing it from the generic irq code.
Thanks to Mark Rutland for the huge effort!
- A few irqchip drivers are made modular (broadcom, meson), because
that's apparently a thing...
- A new driver for the Microchip External Interrupt Controller
- The irq_cpu_offline()/irq_cpu_online() API is now deprecated and
can only be selected on the Cavium Octeon platform. Once this
platform is removed, the API will be removed at the same time.
- A sprinkle of devm_* helper, as people seem to love that.
- The usual spattering of small fixes and minor improvements.

h8300: Fix linux/irqchip.h include mess
h8300 drags linux/irqchip.h from asm/irq.h, which is in general a bad
idea (asm/*.h should avoid dragging linux/*.h, as it is usually supposed
to work the other way around).
Move the inclusion of linux/irqchip.h to the single location where it
actually matters in the arch code.

irqchip/mips-gic: Get rid of the reliance on irq_cpu_online()
The MIPS GIC driver uses irq_cpu_online() to go and program the
per-CPU interrupts. However, this method iterates over all IRQs
in the system, despite only 3 per-CPU interrupts being of interest.
Let's be terribly bold and do the iteration ourselves. To ensure
mutual exclusion, hold the gic_lock spinlock that is otherwise
taken while dealing with these interrupts.

MIPS: loongson64: Drop call to irq_cpu_offline()
Also loongson64 calls irq_cpu_offline(), none of its interrupt
controllers implement the .irq_cpu_offline callback.
It is thus obvious that this call only serves the dubious purpose
of wasting precious CPU cycles by iterating over all interrupts.
Get rid of the call altogether.

irq: remove handle_domain_{irq,nmi}()
Now that entry code handles IRQ entry (including setting the IRQ regs)
before calling irqchip code, irqchip code can safely call
generic_handle_domain_irq(), and there's no functional reason for it to
call handle_domain_irq().
Let's cement this split of responsibility and remove handle_domain_irq()
entirely, updating irqchip drivers to call generic_handle_domain_irq().
For consistency, handle_domain_nmi() is similarly removed and replaced
with a generic_handle_domain_nmi() function which also does not perform
any entry logic.
Previously handle_domain_{irq,nmi}() had a WARN_ON() which would fire
when they were called in an inappropriate context. So that we can
identify similar issues going forward, similar WARN_ON_ONCE() logic is
added to the generic_handle_*() functions, and comments are updated for
clarity and consistency.

In preparation for removing HANDLE_DOMAIN_IRQ_IRQENTRY, have arch/riscv
perform all the irqentry accounting in its entry code. As arch/riscv
uses GENERIC_IRQ_MULTI_HANDLER, we can use generic_handle_arch_irq() to
do so.
Since generic_handle_arch_irq() handles the irq entry and setting the
irq regs, and happens before the irqchip code calls handle_IPI(), we can
remove the redundant irq entry and irq regs manipulation from
handle_IPI().
There should be no functional change as a result of this patch.

In preparation for removing HANDLE_DOMAIN_IRQ_IRQENTRY, have arch/arm64
perform all the irqentry accounting in its entry code.
As arch/arm64 already performs portions of the irqentry logic in
enter_from_kernel_mode() and exit_to_kernel_mode(), including
rcu_irq_{enter,exit}(), the only additional calls that need to be made
are to irq_{enter,exit}_rcu(). Removing the calls to
rcu_irq_{enter,exit}() from handle_domain_irq() ensures that we inform
RCU once per IRQ entry and will correctly identify quiescent periods.
Since we should not call irq_{enter,exit}_rcu() when entering a
pseudo-NMI, el1_interrupt() is reworked to have separate __el1_irq() and
__el1_pnmi() paths for regular IRQ and psuedo-NMI entry, with
irq_{enter,exit}_irq() only called for the former.
In preparation for removing HANDLE_DOMAIN_IRQ, the irq regs are managed
in do_interrupt_handler() for both regular IRQ and pseudo-NMI. This is
currently redundant, but not harmful.
For clarity the preemption logic is moved into __el1_irq(). We should
never preempt within a pseudo-NMI, and arm64_enter_nmi() already
enforces this by incrementing the preempt_count, but it's clearer if we
never invoke the preemption logic when entering a pseudo-NMI.

perform all the irqentry accounting in its entry code.
For configurations with CONFIG_GENERIC_IRQ_MULTI_HANDLER, we can use
generic_handle_arch_irq(). Other than asm_do_IRQ(), all C calls to
handle_IRQ() are from irqchip handlers which will be called from
generic_handle_arch_irq(), so to avoid double accounting IRQ entry, the
entry logic is moved from handle_IRQ() into asm_do_IRQ().
For ARMv7M the entry assembly is tightly coupled with the NVIC irqchip, and
while the entry code should logically live under arch/arm/, moving the
entry logic there makes things more convoluted. So for now, place the
entry logic in the NVIC irqchip, but separated into a separate
function to make the split of responsibility clear.
For all other configurations without CONFIG_GENERIC_IRQ_MULTI_HANDLER,
IRQ entry is already handled in arch code, and requires no changes.
There should be no functional change as a result of this patch.

irq: add a (temporary) CONFIG_HANDLE_DOMAIN_IRQ_IRQENTRY
Going forward we want architecture/entry code to perform all the
necessary work to enter/exit IRQ context, with irqchip code merely
handling the mapping of the interrupt to any handler(s). Among other
reasons, this is necessary to consistently fix some longstanding issues
with the ordering of lockdep/RCU/tracing instrumentation which many
architectures get wrong today in their entry code.
Importantly, rcu_irq_{enter,exit}() must be called precisely once per
IRQ exception, so that rcu_is_cpu_rrupt_from_idle() can correctly
identify when an interrupt was taken from an idle context which must be
explicitly preempted. Currently handle_domain_irq() calls
rcu_irq_{enter,exit}() via irq_{enter,exit}(), but entry code needs to
be able to call rcu_irq_{enter,exit}() earlier for correct ordering
across lockdep/RCU/tracing updates for sequences such as:
lockdep_hardirqs_off(CALLER_ADDR0);
rcu_irq_enter();
trace_hardirqs_off_finish();
To permit each architecture to be converted to the new style in turn,
this patch adds a new CONFIG_HANDLE_DOMAIN_IRQ_IRQENTRY selected by all
current users of HANDLE_DOMAIN_IRQ, which gates the existing behaviour.
When CONFIG_HANDLE_DOMAIN_IRQ_IRQENTRY is not selected,
handle_domain_irq() requires entry code to perform the
irq_{enter,exit}() work, with an explicit check for this matching the
style of handle_domain_nmi().
Subsequent patches will:
1) Add the necessary IRQ entry accounting to each architecture in turn,
dropping CONFIG_HANDLE_DOMAIN_IRQ_IRQENTRY from that architecture's
Kconfig.
2) Remove CONFIG_HANDLE_DOMAIN_IRQ_IRQENTRY once it is no longer
selected.
3) Convert irqchip drivers to consistently use
generic_handle_domain_irq() rather than handle_domain_irq().
4) Remove handle_domain_irq() and CONFIG_HANDLE_DOMAIN_IRQ.
... which should leave us with a clear split of responsiblity across the
entry and irqchip code, making it possible to perform additional
cleanups and fixes for the aforementioned longstanding issues with entry
code.
There should be no functional change as a result of this patch.

function to make the split of responsibility clear.
In future this should probably use GENERIC_IRQ_MULTI_HANDLER to cleanly
decouple this.

irq: add generic_handle_arch_irq()
Several architectures select GENERIC_IRQ_MULTI_HANDLER and branch to
handle_arch_irq() without performing any entry accounting.
Add a generic wrapper to handle the common irqentry work when invoking
handle_arch_irq(). Where an architecture needs to perform some entry
accounting itself, it will need to invoke handle_arch_irq() itself.
In subsequent patches it will become the responsibilty of the entry code
to set the irq regs when entering an IRQ (rather than deferring this to
an irqchip handler), so generic_handle_arch_irq() is made to set the irq
regs now. This can be redundant in some cases, but is never harmful as
saving/restoring the old regs nests safely.

check performed by handle_irq_desc(), nor the resolution of the desc
performed by generic_handle_domain_irq().
Use generic_handle_domain_irq() directly, as this is functioanlly
equivalent and clearer. At the same time, delete the stale comments,
which are no longer helpful.

irq: mips: stop (ab)using handle_domain_irq()
On MIPS, the only user of handle_domain_irq() is octeon_irq_ciu3_ip2(),
which is called from the platform-specific plat_irq_dispatch() function
invoked from the early assembly code.
No other irqchip relevant to arch/mips uses handle_domain_irq():
* No other plat_irq_dispatch() function transitively calls
handle_domain_irq().
* No other vectored IRQ dispatch function registered with
set_vi_handler() calls handle_domain_irq().
* No chained irqchip handlers call handle_domain_irq(), which makes
sense as this is meant to only be used by root irqchip handlers.
Currently octeon_irq_ciu3_ip2() passes NULL as the `regs` argument to
handle_domain_irq(), and as handle_domain_irq() will pass this to
set_irq_regs(), any invoked IRQ handlers will erroneously see a NULL
pt_regs if they call get_pt_regs().
Fix this by calling generic_handle_domain_irq() directly, and performing
the necessary irq_{enter,exit}() logic directly in
octeon_irq_ciu3_ip2(). At the same time, deselect HANDLE_DOMAIN_IRQ,
which subsequent patches will remove.
Other than the corrected behaviour of get_pt_regs(), there should be no
functional change as a result of this patch.

irq: mips: simplify bcm6345_l1_irq_handle()
As bcm6345_l1_irq_handle() only needs to know /whether/ an IRQ was
resolved, and doesn't need to know the specific IRQ, it's simpler for it
to call generic_handle_domain_irq() directly and check the return code,
so let's do that.
There should be no functional change as a result of this patch.

irq: mips: avoid nested irq_enter()
As bcm6345_l1_irq_handle() is a chained irqchip handler, it will be
invoked within the context of the root irqchip handler, which must have
entered IRQ context already.
When bcm6345_l1_irq_handle() calls arch/mips's do_IRQ() , this will nest
another call to irq_enter(), and the resulting nested increment to
`rcu_data.dynticks_nmi_nesting` will cause rcu_is_cpu_rrupt_from_idle()
to fail to identify wakeups from idle, resulting in failure to preempt,
and RCU stalls.
Chained irqchip handlers must invoke IRQ handlers by way of thee core
irqchip code, i.e. generic_handle_irq() or generic_handle_domain_irq()
and should not call do_IRQ(), which is intended only for root irqchip
handlers.
Fix bcm6345_l1_irq_handle() by calling generic_handle_irq() directly.

switch the driver to use the platform_device provided by the irqchip
platform driver code and resolve the number of interrupts using
platform_irq_count().

irqchip/irq-bcm7038-l1: Restrict affinity setting to MIPS
Only MIPS based platforms using this interrupt controller as first level
interrupt controller can actually change the affinity of interrupts by
re-programming the affinity mask of the interrupt controller and use
another word group to have another CPU process the interrupt.
When this interrupt is used as a second level interrupt controller on
ARM/ARM64 there is no way to change the interrupt affinity. This fixes a
NULL pointer de-reference while trying to change the affinity since
there is only a single word group in that case, and we would have been
overruning the intc->cpus[] array.

irqchip/irq-bcm7038-l1: Gate use of CPU logical map to MIPS
The use of the cpu_logical_map[] array is only relevant for MIPS based
platform where this driver is used as a first level interrupt controller
and contains multiple register groups to map with an associated CPU.
On ARM/ARM64 based systems this interrupt controller is present and used
as a second level interrupt controller hanging off the ARM GIC. That
copy of the interrupt controller contains a single group, resulting in
the intc->cpus[] array to be of size 1.
Things happened to work in that case because we install that interrupt
controller as a chained handler which does not allow it to be affine to
any CPU but the boot CPU which happens to be 0, therefore we never
de-reference past intc->cpus[] but with the current code in place, we do
leave a chance of de-referencing the array past its bounds.

MIPS: BMIPS: Remove use of irq_cpu_offline
irq_cpu_offline() is only used by MIPS and we should instead use
irq_migrate_all_off_this_cpu(). This will be helpful in order to remove
drivers/irqchip/irq-bcm7038-l1.c irq_cpu_offline callback which would
have got in the way of making this driver modular.

irqchip/mchp-eic: Add support for the Microchip EIC
Add support for Microchip External Interrupt Controller. The controller
supports 2 external interrupt lines. For every external input there is
a connection to GIC. The interrupt controllers contains only 4
registers:
- EIC_GFCS (read only): which indicates that glitch filter configuration
is ready (not addressed in this implementation)
- EIC_SCFG0R, EIC_SCFG1R (read, write): allows per interrupt specific
settings: enable, polarity/edge settings, glitch filter settings
- EIC_WPMR, EIC_WPSR: enables write protection mode specific settings
(which are architecture specific) for the controller and are not
addressed in this implementation

irqchip: Provide stronger type checking for IRQCHIP_MATCH/IRQCHIP_DECLARE
Both IRQCHIP_DECLARE() and IRQCHIP_MATCH() use an underlying of_device_id()
structure to encode the matching property and the init callback.
However, this callback is stored in as a void * pointer, which obviously
defeat any attempt at stronger type checking.
Work around this by providing a new macro that builds on top of the
__typecheck() primitive, and that can be used to warn when there is
a discrepency between the drivers and core code.

elf: don't use MAP_FIXED_NOREPLACE for elf interpreter mappings
In commit
b212921b13bd ("elf: don't use MAP_FIXED_NOREPLACE for elf
executable mappings") we still leave MAP_FIXED_NOREPLACE in place for
load_elf_interp.
Unfortunately, this will cause kernel to fail to start with:

The reason is that the elf interpreter (ld.so) has overlapping segments.

The reason for this problem is the same as described in commit
ad55eac74f20 ("elf: enforce MAP_FIXED on overlaying elf segments").
Not only executable binaries, elf interpreters (e.g. ld.so) can have
overlapping elf segments, so we better drop MAP_FIXED_NOREPLACE and go
back to MAP_FIXED in load_elf_interp.

objtool: print out the symbol type when complaining about it
The objtool warning that the kvm instruction emulation code triggered
wasn't very useful:
arch/x86/kvm/emulate.o: warning: objtool: __ex_table+0x4: don't know how to handle reloc symbol type: kvm_fastop_exception
in that it helpfully tells you which symbol name it had trouble figuring
out the relocation for, but it doesn't actually say what the unknown
symbol type was that triggered it all.
In this case it was because of missing type information (type 0, aka
STT_NOTYPE), but on the whole it really should just have printed that
out as part of the message.
Because if this warning triggers, that's very much the first thing you
want to know - why did reloc2sec_off() return failure for that symbol?
So rather than just saying you can't handle some type of symbol without
saying what the type _was_, just print out the type number too.

kvm: fix objtool relocation warning
The recent change to make objtool aware of more symbol relocation types
(commit
24ff65257375: "objtool: Teach get_alt_entry() about more
relocation types") also added another check, and resulted in this
objtool warning when building kvm on x86:
arch/x86/kvm/emulate.o: warning: objtool: __ex_table+0x4: don't know how to handle reloc symbol type: kvm_fastop_exception
The reason seems to be that kvm_fastop_exception() is marked as a global
symbol, which causes the relocation to ke kept around for objtool. And
at the same time, the kvm_fastop_exception definition (which is done as
an inline asm statement) doesn't actually set the type of the global,
which then makes objtool unhappy.
The minimal fix is to just not mark kvm_fastop_exception as being a
global symbol. It's only used in that one compilation unit anyway, so
it was always pointless. That's how all the other local exception table
labels are done.
I'm not entirely happy about the kinds of games that the kvm code plays
with doing its own exception handling, and the fact that it confused
objtool is most definitely a symptom of the code being a bit too subtle
and ad-hoc. But at least this trivial one-liner makes objtool no longer
upset about what is going on.

cachefiles: Fix oops in trace_cachefiles_mark_buried due to NULL object
In cachefiles_mark_object_buried, the dentry in question may not have an
owner, and thus our cachefiles_object pointer may be NULL when calling
the tracepoint, in which case we will also not have a valid debug_id to
print in the tracepoint.
Check for NULL object in the tracepoint and if so, just set debug_id to
MAX_UINT as was done in
2908f5e101e3 ("fscache: Add a cookie debug ID
and use that in traces").

drm/i915: fix blank screen booting crashes
5.15-rc1 crashes with blank screen when booting up on two ThinkPads
using i915. Bisections converge convincingly, but arrive at different
and suprising "culprits", none of them the actual culprit.
netconsole (with init_netconsole() hacked to call i915_init() when
logging has started, instead of by module_init()) tells the story:
kernel BUG at drivers/gpu/drm/i915/i915_sw_fence.c:245!
with RSI:
ffffffff814d408b pointing to sw_fence_dummy_notify().
I've been building with CONFIG_CC_OPTIMIZE_FOR_SIZE=y, and that
function needs to be 4-byte aligned.

Also lm75[] does not serve a purpose anymore after switching to
devm_i2c_new_dummy_device() in w83791d_detect_subclients().
The patch fixes possible NULL pointer dereference by removing lm75[].
Found by Linux Driver Verification project (linuxtesting.org).

hwmon: (pmbus/ibm-cffps) max_power_out swap changes
The bytes for max_power_out from the ibm-cffps devices differ in byte
order for some power supplies.
The Witherspoon power supply returns the bytes in MSB/LSB order.
The Rainier power supply returns the bytes in LSB/MSB order.
The Witherspoon power supply uses version cffps1. The Rainier power
supply should use version cffps2. If version is cffps1, swap the bytes
before output to max_power_out.
Tested:
Witherspoon before: 3148. Witherspoon after: 3148.
Rainier before: 53255. Rainier after: 2000.

hwmon: (occ) Fix P10 VRM temp sensors
The P10 (temp sensor version 0x10) doesn't do the same VRM status
reporting that was used on P9. It just reports the temperature, so
drop the check for VRM fru type in the sysfs show function, and don't
set the name to "alarm".

thermal: Update information in MAINTAINERS
Because Rui is now going to focus on work that is not related to the
maintenance of the thermal subsystem in the kernel, Rafael will start
to help Daniel with handling the development process as a new member
of the thermal maintainers team. Rui will continue to review patches
in that area.
The thermal development process flow will change so that the material
from the thermal git tree will be merged into the thermal branch of
the linux-pm.git tree before going into the mainline.
Update the information in MAINTAINERS accordingly.

io_uring: kill fasync
We have never supported fasync properly, it would only fire when there
is something polling io_uring making it useless. The original support came
in through the initial io_uring merge for 5.1. Since it's broken and
nobody has reported it, get rid of the fasync bits.

sched/fair: Add ancestors of unthrottled undecayed cfs_rq
Since commit
a7b359fc6a37 ("sched/fair: Correctly insert cfs_rq's to
list on unthrottle") we add cfs_rqs with no runnable tasks but not fully
decayed into the load (leaf) list. We may ignore adding some ancestors
and therefore breaking tmp_alone_branch invariant. This broke LTP test
cfs_bandwidth01 and it was partially fixed in commit
fdaba61ef8a2
("sched/fair: Ensure that the CFS parent is added after unthrottling").
I noticed the named test still fails even with the fix (but with low
probability, 1 in ~1000 executions of the test). The reason is when
bailing out of unthrottle_cfs_rq early, we may miss adding ancestors of
the unthrottled cfs_rq, thus, not joining tmp_alone_branch properly.
Fix this by adding ancestors if we notice the unthrottled cfs_rq was
added to the load list.

perf/core: fix userpage->time_enabled of inactive events
Users of rdpmc rely on the mmapped user page to calculate accurate
time_enabled. Currently, userpage->time_enabled is only updated when the
event is added to the pmu. As a result, inactive event (due to counter
multiplexing) does not have accurate userpage->time_enabled. This can
be reproduced with something like:

perf/x86: Reset destroy callback on event init failure
perf_init_event tries multiple init callbacks and does not reset the
event state between tries. When x86_pmu_event_init runs, it
unconditionally sets the destroy callback to hw_perf_event_destroy. On
the next init attempt after x86_pmu_event_init, in perf_try_init_event,
if the pmu's capabilities includes PERF_PMU_CAP_NO_EXCLUDE, the destroy
callback will be run. However, if the next init didn't set the destroy
callback, hw_perf_event_destroy will be run (since the callback wasn't
reset).
Looking at other pmu init functions, the common pattern is to only set
the destroy callback on a successful init. Resetting the callback on
failure tries to replicate that pattern.
This was discovered after commit
f11dd0d80555 ("perf/x86/amd/ibs: Extend
PERF_PMU_CAP_NO_EXCLUDE to IBS Op") when the second (and only second)
run of the perf tool after a reboot results in 0 samples being
generated. The extra run of hw_perf_event_destroy results in
active_events having an extra decrement on each perf run. The second run
has active_events == 0 and every subsequent run has active_events < 0.
When active_events == 0, the NMI handler will early-out and not record
any samples.

objtool: Teach get_alt_entry() about more relocation types
Occasionally objtool encounters symbol (as opposed to section)
relocations in .altinstructions. Typically they are the alternatives
written by elf_add_alternative() as encountered on a noinstr
validation run on vmlinux after having already ran objtool on the
individual .o files.
Basically this is the counterpart of commit
44f6a7c0755d ("objtool:
Fix seg fault with Clang non-section symbols"), because when these new
assemblers (binutils now also does this) strip the section symbols,
elf_add_reloc_to_insn() is forced to emit symbol based relocations.
As such, teach get_alt_entry() about different relocation types.

ext4: fix potential infinite loop in ext4_dx_readdir()
When ext4_htree_fill_tree() fails, ext4_dx_readdir() can run into an
infinite loop since if info->last_pos != ctx->pos this will reset the
directory scan and reread the failing entry. For example:
1. a dx_dir which has 3 block, block 0 as dx_root block, block 1/2 as
leaf block which own the ext4_dir_entry_2
2. block 1 read ok and call_filldir which will fill the dirent and update
the ctx->pos
3. block 2 read fail, but we has already fill some dirent, so we will
return back to userspace will a positive return val(see ksys_getdents64)
4. the second ext4_dx_readdir will reset the world since info->last_pos
!= ctx->pos, and will also init the curr_hash which pos to block 1
5. So we will read block1 too, and once block2 still read fail, we can
only fill one dirent because the hash of the entry in block1(besides
the last one) won't greater than curr_hash
6. this time, we forget update last_pos too since the read for block2
will fail, and since we has got the one entry, ksys_getdents64 can
return success
7. Latter we will trapped in a loop with step 4~6

Besides, after we enable fast commit, ext4_fc_replay can add work to
s_error_work but return success, so the latter journal destroy in
ext4_load_journal can trigger this problem too.
Fix this problem with two steps:
1. Call ext4_commit_super directly in ext4_handle_error for the case
that called from ext4_fc_replay
2. Since it's hard to pair the init and flush for s_error_work, we'd
better add a extras flush_work before journal destroy in
ext4_fill_super
Besides, this patch will call ext4_commit_super in ext4_handle_error for
any nojournal case too. But it seems safe since the reason we call
schedule_work was that we should save error info to sb through journal
if available. Conversely, for the nojournal case, it seems useless delay
commit superblock to s_error_work.

ext4: fix loff_t overflow in ext4_max_bitmap_size()
We should use unsigned long long rather than loff_t to avoid
overflow in ext4_max_bitmap_size() for comparison before returning.
w/o this patch sbi->s_bitmap_maxbytes was becoming a negative
value due to overflow of upper_limit (with has_huge_files as true)
Below is a quick test to trigger it on a 64KB pagesize system.
sudo mkfs.ext4 -b 65536 -O ^has_extents,^64bit /dev/loop2
sudo mount /dev/loop2 /mnt
sudo echo "hello" > /mnt/hello -> This will error out with
"echo: write error: File too large"
