Revert "ARM: dts: rockchip: add startup delay to rk3288-veyron panel-regulators"

This reverts commit 1f45e8c6d0161f044d679f242fe7514e2625af4a.

This 100 ms mystery delay is not on downstream kernels and no longer
seems needed on upstream kernels either [1].  Presumably something in the
meantime has made things better.  A few possibilities for patches that
have landed in the meantime that could have made this better are
commit 3157694d8c7f ("pwm-backlight: Add support for PWM delays
proprieties."), commit 5fb5caee92ba ("pwm-backlight: Enable/disable
the PWM before/after LCD enable toggle."), and commit 6d5922dd0d60
("ARM: dts: rockchip: set PWM delay backlight settings for Veyron")

Let's revert and get our 100 ms back.

ARM: dts: Update the NSPIRE DTS files for DRM

The DRM subsystem graphics drivers require more granular
definition of the connection between display drivers and
panels, and a proper panel compatible. This utilizes the
bindings merged to the DRM subsystem to properly define
the display on the NSPIRE devices.

We also do away with the undocumented DT binding
"lcd-type".

have full control over its clocking.

ARM: dts: meson8b: odroidc1: use the MAC address stored in the eFuse

Odroid-C1 uses the MAC address stored in eFuse at offset 0x1b4 (which is
defined as a "standard" offset for all Meson8 and Meson8b boards, but
testing shows that MXQ doesn't have the eFuse values programmed and
EC-100 stores it's MAC address in eMMC).

Add the nvmem cell which points to the MAC address and asssign it to the
Ethernet controller as "mac-address".
As result of this the MAC address which is stored in the eFuse is now
assigned to the Ethernet controller and consistent across reboots.

Makefile: Convert -Wimplicit-fallthrough=3 to just -Wimplicit-fallthrough for clang

A compilation -Wimplicit-fallthrough warning was enabled by commit
a035d552a93b ("Makefile: Globally enable fall-through warning")

Even though clang 10.0.0 does not currently support this warning without
a patch, clang currently does not support a value for this option.

Link: https://bugs.llvm.org/show_bug.cgi?id=39382
The gcc default for this warning is 3 so removing the =3 has no effect
for gcc and enables the warning for patched versions of clang.

Also remove the =3 from an existing use in a parisc Makefile:

5 years agokbuild: show hint if subdir-y/m is used to visit module Makefile
Masahiro Yamada [Thu, 8 Aug 2019 11:21:11 +0000 (20:21 +0900)]
kbuild: show hint if subdir-y/m is used to visit module Makefile

Since commit ff9b45c55b26 ("kbuild: modpost: read modules.order instead
of $(MODVERDIR)/*.mod"), a module is no longer built in the following
pattern:

  [Makefile]
  subdir-y := some-module

  [some-module/Makefile]
  obj-m := some-module.o

You cannot write Makefile this way in upstream because modules.order is
not correctly generated. subdir-y is used to descend to a sub-directory
that builds tools, device trees, etc.

For external modules, the modules order does not matter. So, the
Makefile above was known to work.

I believe the Makefile should be re-written as follows:

  [Makefile]
  obj-m := some-module/

  [some-module/Makefile]
  obj-m := some-module.o

However, people will have no idea if their Makefile suddenly stops
working. In fact, I received questions from multiple people.

Show a warning for a while if obj-m is specified in a Makefile visited
by subdir-y or subdir-m.

I touched the %/ rule to avoid false-positive warnings for the single
target.

5 years agokbuild: generate modules.order only in directories visited by obj-y/m
Masahiro Yamada [Tue, 6 Aug 2019 10:03:22 +0000 (19:03 +0900)]
kbuild: generate modules.order only in directories visited by obj-y/m

The modules.order files in directories visited by the chain of obj-y
or obj-m are merged to the upper-level ones, and become parts of the
top-level modules.order. On the other hand, there is no need to
generate modules.order in directories visited by subdir-y or subdir-m
since they would become orphan anyway.

5 years agokbuild: fix false-positive need-builtin calculation
Masahiro Yamada [Tue, 6 Aug 2019 10:03:21 +0000 (19:03 +0900)]
kbuild: fix false-positive need-builtin calculation

The current implementation of need-builtin is false-positive,
for example, in the following Makefile:

  obj-m := foo/
  obj-y := foo/bar/

..., where foo/built-in.a is not required.

5 years agokbuild: revive single target %.ko
Masahiro Yamada [Fri, 2 Aug 2019 10:23:58 +0000 (19:23 +0900)]
kbuild: revive single target %.ko

I removed the single target %.ko in commit ff9b45c55b26 ("kbuild:
modpost: read modules.order instead of $(MODVERDIR)/*.mod") because
the modpost stage does not work reliably. For instance, the module
dependency, modversion, etc. do not work if we lack symbol information
from the other modules.

Yet, some people still want to build only one module in their interest,
and it may be still useful if it is used within those limitations.

Fixes: ff9b45c55b26 ("kbuild: modpost: read modules.order instead of $(MODVERDIR)/*.mod")
