Switch fingerprint subDir to pool ids

- <gulp> but no anomalies noted by test-suite, valgrind or
  a bit of manual testing. Time will tell...
- Memory is no longer scarce or scary, the strings are simply owned
  by the pool in all circumstances. Eliminate scareMemory foobar
  from the fingerprinting internals.
