  12 XML/SGML vocabulary particularly well suited to books and papers about
  13 computer hardware and software.</p><p>xsltproc and libxslt are not specifically dependant on DocBook, but since
  14 a lot of people use xsltproc and libxml2 for DocBook formatting, here are a
  15 few pointers and information which may be helpful:</p><ul><li>The <a href="http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/docbook/">DocBook
  16     homepage at Oasis</a> you should find pointers there on all the lastest
  17     versions of the DTDs and XSLT stylesheets</li>
  18   <li><a href="http://www.docbook.org/">DocBook: The Definitive Guide</a> is
  19     the official reference documentation for DocBook.</li>
  20   <li><a href="https://sourceforge.net/docman/index.php?group_id=21935">DocBook
  21     Open Repository</a> contains a lot of information about DocBook</li>
  22   <li>Bob Stayton provides a <a href="http://www.sagehill.net/">lot of
  23     resources</a> and consulting services around DocBook.</li>
  24   <li>Here is a <a href="/buildDocBookCatalog">shell script</a> to generate
  25     XML Catalogs for DocBook 4.1.2 . If it can write to the /etc/xml/
  26     directory, it will set-up /etc/xml/catalog and /etc/xml/docbook based on
  27     the resources found on the system. Otherwise it will just create
  28     ~/xmlcatalog and ~/dbkxmlcatalog and doing:
  29     <p><code>export XMLCATALOG=$HOME/xmlcatalog</code></p>
  30     <p>should allow to process DocBook documentations without requiring
  31     network accesses for the DTd or stylesheets</p>

  49 </ul><p>Do not use the --docbook option of xsltproc to process XML DocBook
  50 documents, this option is only intended to provide some (limited) support of
  51 the SGML version of DocBook.</p><p>Points which are not DocBook specific but still worth mentionning
  52 again:</p><ul><li>if you think DocBook processing time is too slow, make sure you have
  53     XML Catalogs pointing to a local installation of the DTD of DocBook.
  54     Check the <a href="http://xmlsoft.org/catalog.html">XML Catalog page</a>
  55     to understand more on this subject.</li>
  56   <li>before processing a new document, use the command
  57     <p><code>xmllint --valid --noout path_to_document</code></p>
  58     <p>to make sure that your input is valid DocBook. And fixes the errors
  59     before processing further. Note that XSLT processing may work correctly
  60     with some forms of validity errors left, but in general it can give
  61     troubles on output.</p>
