   5 The GStreamer team is pleased to announce the first release candidate of
   6 the stable 1.4 release series. The 1.4 release series is adding new features
   7 on top of the 1.0 and 1.2 series and is part of the API and ABI-stable 1.x
   8 release series of the GStreamer multimedia framework.

  11 This release candidate will hopefully shortly be followed by the stable 1.4.0
  12 release if no bigger regressions or bigger issues are detected, and enough
  13 testing of the release candidate happened. The new API that was added during
  14 the 1.3 release series is not expected to change anymore at this point.

  17 Binaries for Android, iOS, Mac OS X and Windows are provided together with this
  18 release.

  21 The stable 1.4 release series is API and ABI compatible with 1.0.x, 1.2.x and
  22 any other 1.x release series in the future. Compared to 1.2.x it contains some
  23 new features and more intrusive changes that were considered too risky as a
  24 bugfix.

  33 sell your freedom down the river.  These plugins might have a patent noose
  34 around their neck, or a lock-up license, or any other problem that makes you
  35 think twice about shipping them.

  39 son less because he's not as pretty as the other ones ? No  - she commends
  40 him on his great personality.  These plugins are the life of the party.
  41 And we'll still step in and set them straight if you report any unacceptable
  42 behaviour - because there are two kinds of people in the world, my friend:
  43 those with a rope around their neck and the people who do the cutting.

  46 This module contains a set of plugins that have good quality and correct
  47 functionality, but distributing them might pose problems.  The license
  48 on either the plugins or the supporting libraries might not be how we'd
  49 like. The code might be widely known to present patent problems.
