83
The latest version of this document is always available at
84 http://gcc.gnu.org/install/.
85 It refers to the current development sources, instructions for
86 specific released versions are included with the sources.
88
This document describes the generic installation procedure for GCC as well
89 as detailing some target specific installation instructions.
91
GCC includes several components that previously were separate distributions
92 with their own installation instructions. This document supersedes all
93 package-specific installation instructions.
95
Before starting the build/install procedure please check the
96 host/target specific installation notes.
97 We recommend you browse the entire generic installation instructions before
100
Lists of successful builds for released versions of GCC are
101 available at http://gcc.gnu.org/buildstat.html.
102 These lists are updated as new information becomes available.
104
The installation procedure itself is broken into five steps.
107
Prerequisites
108

Downloading the source
109

Configuration
110

Building
111

Testing (optional)
112

Final install
115
Please note that GCC does not support ‘<samp>make uninstall</samp>’ and probably
116 won’t do so in the near future as this would open a can of worms. Instead,
117 we suggest that you install GCC into a directory of its own and simply
118 remove that directory when you do not need that specific version of GCC
119 any longer, and, if shared libraries are installed there as well, no
120 more binaries exist that use them.
122
There are also some old installation instructions,
123 which are mostly obsolete but still contain some information which has
124 not yet been merged into the main part of this manual.
