   9 Some of the new and changed features of this version are as follows:\r

  11 o Reworking of the bibliographic markup to make it more flexible and\r
  12   usable.\r

  14 o New retrieval metadata that applies to whole divisions: flat keywords,\r
  15   hierarchical subject topics, and sets of index terms.\r
  16 \r
  17 o New inline elements: ErrorCode, Prompt, and EnVar.\r
  18 \r
  19 o Broadening of FuncSynopsis content.\r
  20 \r
  21 o Broadening of Article content.\r
  22 \r
  23 o Changeover to the SGML Open CALS full table model.\r
  24 \r
  25 o New parameterization scheme for the Role attribute that makes it easier\r
  26   to customize Role individually for each element.\r

  28 Current DocBook users should note that a handful of planned\r
  29 backwards-incompatible changes have been made.  In general, these should\r
  30 not adversely affect existing documents.  Note also that comments have\r
  31 been added to the DTD to reflect the planned backwards-incompatible\r
  32 changes that will be made in V4.0 (no delivery date scheduled).  There\r
  33 is also a 40issues.txt file in the DocBook distribution that summarizes\r
  34 these planned changes.\r

  36 Maintainers and other DTD readers may want to take note of a few small\r
  37 name changes that have been made to parameter entities; these may affect\r
  38 existing customization layers.\r
  39 \r
  40 Updated reference documentation for V3.0 is available; fully updated\r
  41 maintenance and user's documentation is forthcoming.\r
